WordPress Email Settings & Restrictions
It’s important to understand how your WordPress sends emails and what restrictions we apply to outgoing emails.
The deliverability of emails is very important, that’s why we use Amazon SES to handle all emails sent by WordPress websites on our hosting platform.
Email Restrictions
There are several email restrictions you need to be aware of:
- All websites are limited to 150 emails per hour. Once this limit is reached, emails will be rejected.
- No attachments. All attachments will be removed before emails are sent.
- No marketing emails. We don’t allow marketing emails sent using newsletter type plugins.
- Emails must use your server’s email domain as
FROM
email address, otherwise emails will be rejected (see below for more details).
Server Email Domain
In order to maintain high deliverability and be able to send emails using Amazon SES, emails must come from an authenticated domain.
What this means, emails sent by WordPress must use a specific FROM
email address. You can’t use your own emails in the FROM
field. Emails will be rejected.
Our hosting platform should automatically handle FROM
email on all outgoing emails. Even if you set your own email in the plugin, we will automatically modify it to make sure your email is delivered. However, we highly recommend you use correct email address to begin with to ensure deliverability of your emails.
Our server’s email domains are:
Server: gatsby.projectarmy.xyz
Email domain: gatsby.projectarmy.email
Server: finn.projectarmy.xyz
Email domain: finn.projectarmy.email
For example, if you’re hosted on gatsby.projectarmy.xyz
your FROM
email address should be something@gatsby.projectarmy.emal
. The "something" in the email can be anything, that’s not important. It’s the domain that follows @ symbol that needs to be correct.
Our hosting platform rewrites FROM
email address using the following format:
From Name: domain.com
From Email: domain.com@gatsby.projectarmy.email
Reply-to: admin_email
Here’s what it will look like in Gmail:
The reply-to field uses your administrative email address set under Settings General. When users reply to those emails, you will be able to receive replies.
We tried to automate this process as much as possible, for typical users everything should already work. However, if you run into issues with emails not being delivered or have questions about this, don’t hesitate to contact your support team. We’re here to help.
